TEASLER CPA PLLC MERGES WITH ALEXANDER THOMPSON ARNOLD PLLC

Tupelo, Miss. — Regional accounting firm Alexander Thompson Arnold PLLC (ATA) has expanded its presence in Tupelo, Miss. through the acquisition of local firm Teasler CPA PLLC owned by Kate Teasler, CPA, effective July 1, 2021.

ATA has built a presence in Tupelo as a result of a 2017 acquisition of Ashby & Associates PLLC and a 2018 acquisition of Fred Page & Associates P.C. The acquisition of Teasler CPA allows for ATA’s further growth in the Tupelo area. 

“As we continue to grow, it is our top priority to join with firms that embody similar values as ATA,” said ATA managing partner John Whybrew. “Teasler CPA is a natural fit, and we see a bright future for our firm in the Tupelo area.”

Staff member Haley Gilley from Teasler CPA PLLC will join the team at ATA Tupelo and will continue to be the main contact for Teasler’s former clients. Teasler will remain of counsel to the firm.

ALEXANDER THOMPSON ARNOLD RISES ON THE IPA TOP 200 FIRM LIST

Jackson, Tenn.– For the seventh consecutive year, Alexander Thompson Arnold PLLC (ATA) has been deemed a top 200 accounting firm in the United States by INSIDE Public Accounting (IPA), an award-winning newsletter for the public accounting profession. ATA increased its standing on the list to 134, two places higher than last year’s ranking of 136.

IPA utilizes net revenues of participating firms as well as the annual IPA Survey and Analysis of Firms to determine the lists of the 100, 200, 300 and 400 U.S.-based firms.

ALEXANDER THOMPSON ARNOLD PLLC ANNOUNCES NEW PARTNER

Murray, Ky. — Alexander Thompson Arnold PLLC (ATA) is excited to announce Leah Bona, CPA has been admitted as the newest partner at ATA. Bona is being promoted to partner from her position as senior tax manager at the Murray, Ky. office. Bona joined ATA two and a half years ago after a stint in private accounting.

“Leah has proven her leadership skills in her role at the Murray office,” said John Whybrew, managing partner of ATA. “Her wealth of experience in the accounting industry makes her invaluable to our team. We are excited to see Leah’s career, as well as our firm, further develop through this promotion.”

Bona has over 15 years of experience in public accounting as well as over 10 years of experience in private accounting as a controller and CFO. Her responsibilities at ATA include tax and financial planning, preparation of corporate, business and individual tax returns, governmental and nonprofit auditing and an extensive range of accounting services.

“At ATA, we offer an excellent and diverse range of client services, and I believe there is an incredible future ahead for our firm,” said Bona. “I feel very fortunate to be honored with this exciting career advancement and am very thankful for the support and guidance I have received from the ATA partners and staff throughout my career.”

Bona graduated from Murray State University with a Bachelor of Science in Accounting. She received her Master of Business Administration with an accounting emphasis from Murray State University in 1996.

Bona serves her community on the finance committee at North Fork Baptist Church. She is a member of the Murray-Calloway County Chamber of Commerce and the Murray State Alumni Association. Bona is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) and the Kentucky Society of CPAs.

ATA Named a 2021 Accounting Today Top Regional Leader

Alexander Thompson Arnold PLLC (ATA) has been recognized as a top regional leader as well as a top firm to watch for 2021 by Accounting Today, maintaining their ranking from the previous year.

Accounting Today releases a publication every year detailing the top 100 accounting firms in the country, firms to look out for, regional leaders, top tax firms and highlights from the previous year relating to the top 100 firms. The roster includes firms with positive growth rates, which landed ATA on the top firms list for the southeast. The report also evaluates a firm in all aspects and not just growth numbers, looking at cutting-edge business practices, which differentiated ATA and put the company on the firms to watch list.

“This achievement shows that the strides we are making to improve our firm and expand our reach are paying off,” said Managing Partner John Whybrew. “Our firm has emphasized working as a team, so this recognition is due to the hard work and improvements we have made together.”

ALEXANDER THOMPSON ARNOLD NAMES NEW PARTNER

Alexander Thompson Arnold PLLC (ATA) is excited to name Elizabeth Russell Owen as the newest partner at ATA. Owen helps lead the Paris, Tenn. office and has been with ATA for six and a half years. She is a certified public accountant, specializing in tax services. In her new role as a partner, she will be responsible for the 1040 practice for the Paris location and client accounting services.

 

“Elizabeth is a team player, works hard and has demonstrated the ability to maintain exceptional relationships with clients,” said John Whybrew, Managing Partner of ATA. “This promotion was well-deserved. We are excited to see Elizabeth continue to contribute to our firm as we move forward.”

Owen is a member of the ATA tax committee, the employee engagement committee and helps develop internal training programs. She handles all of the Paris office’s tax correspondence and is redesigning the client accounting services practice.

 

“As I began my career at ATA, I recognized the opportunities offered for career growth,” said Owen. “It has been my goal to be admitted as a partner for several years. I hope to play a part in advancing the firm in the coming years as a partner.”

 

Owen received her undergraduate degree in accounting, international business and political science from the University of Tennessee at Knoxville in 2013. She received her Master of Accountancy from Belmont University in 2014.

 

Owen has been married to her husband Kody since 2016. They recently welcomed their son, Abbott Shaw, to their family.

 

Owen is a graduate of Leadership Carroll County, a program that builds community awareness and produces stronger leaders in the county each year. She is also a 2017 graduate of the WestStar Leadership Program; her class developed WestTeach, a program that allows teachers to stay in the classroom but also learn to be leaders in their communities. Owen also serves on the Board of Directors for the Paris Rotary Club.

CENTER POINT BUSINESS SOLUTIONS MERGES WITH ALEXANDER THOMPSON ARNOLD PLLC

Union City, Tenn. — Accounting firm Alexander Thompson Arnold PLLC (ATA) recently announced an acquisition of Center Point Business Solutions. Center Point became a full-service Professional Employer Organization (PEO) known as ATA Employment Solutions (ATAES), effective Jan. 1, 2021.

“We are excited for Center Point to join our Family of Firms,” said ATA managing partner, John Whybrew. “This acquisition will provide a number of additional benefits to both companies and their respective client bases.”

Center Point Business Solutions is a respected source for employment solutions. The company offers services such as human resources management, payroll management, retirement planning, unemployment management, human resources strategy, employee health insurance planning, workers’ compensation, and recruiting and hiring aid. Custom training programs have also become a large piece of their service offering.

ATA Welcomes New Partner for National Advisory Practice

Jackson, TN – September 1, 2020 Alexander Thompson Arnold PLLC (ATA) is excited to announce the addition of Rick Schreiber as a partner to the firm. Rick comes to ATA with over 25 years of public accounting & advisory experience in helping companies increase the value of their businesses.

Schreiber was the National Leader of BDO’s Manufacturing & Distribution Practice, and the Southeast Regional Leader of BDO’s Retail & Consumer Business Practice.  He was also the National Co-Leader of BDO’s Industry 4.0 (Digital Transformation) Advisory Group and the managing partner of the Memphis BDO office. Rick holds numerous designations such as CPA, CVGA, CGMA, M&AP, and MBA, which enables him to work with IPO’s, secondary debt offerings, mergers & acquisitions, and value-growth advisory services. He has extensive experience in working with middle market and private equity backed companies.

“My background in both domestic and international companies in the manufacturing, distribution, retail, technology, and healthcare industries, has prepared me for this new role at ATA,” states Schreiber. “I’m looking forward to his new opportunity to help clients and their businesses on a national advisory level.”

Most recently, Rick spent the last 13 years at BDO, where he was the Managing Partner for Assurance & Advisory Services at BDO Memphis. Prior to joining BDO, he worked at PricewaterhouseCoopers for 10 years in a number of their practice offices. Before joining PricewaterhouseCoopers, he worked for a local accounting firm providing assurance, tax, and broad-based business advisory services.

As National Advisory Practice Leader, Rick will expand the firm’s consulting practices and spread awareness of ATA’s Family of Firms, which are ancillary companies that provide business support to clients. He will oversee all advisory services for the firm, providing strategic direction for the consulting department, while building relationships and building our client base. He will come in as a Member/Partner, so he will also work cross-functionally with the partner/leadership group for the overall objectives of the firm.

Schreiber holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting from Indiana University (IU) and has a Master’s in Business Administration degree concentrated in finance from IU as well.

ATA Named RAY Award Recipient

ATA was named first-place winner for the 2020 Risk Achievement of the Year (RAY) Award from Berkley Accident & Health for outstanding commitment to health risk management. The RAY Award represents a vested commitment to improving company health and wellness. ATA is committed to creating a space for employees to feel happy and productive.  In 2019, ATA received honorable mention.

There are numerous initiatives ATA has implemented to keep employees engaged and help increase productivity.  ATA also implemented a health savings account plan with a portion funded by the firm.  The firm implemented wellness challenges to encourage self-care, mindfulness, and relieve stress.  ATA also engaged over 25 businesses in all 14 markets to promote community wellness by giving to local backpack programs for schools and non-profit organizations.  During the holidays, ATA team members received a “Healthy Holidays Cookbook” to support nutritious choices.

Alexander Thompson Arnold CPAs created a chief information officer position and deemed award-winning executive, Alan Watson, as CIO. In today’s rapidly changing digital world, this leadership position was implemented to further guide ATA into the technology realm to achieve the goals of our firm and better our clients. 
When asked about his new role at ATA, Watson said, “I’m excited to be at ATA and bring a strategic technology vision to the firm. My previous experiences across multiple industries have helped prepare me for such an amazing opportunity.”
Watson has an extensive background in technology and leadership. Previously, he was Principal Consultant at Digital Simplicity, former Executive Vice President and Chief Information Officer of ChanceLight Behavioral Health, Therapy & Education, and was named a Citrix Innovation Award Winner. Watson’s excellence in collaborating, networking, and virtualization led him to create customized learning resources in a secure, regulatory compliant environment; this innovative work was awarded by Citrix.

Federal Income Tax Payment and Tax Return Filing Postponement

Federal Income Tax Payment and Tax Return Filing Postponement

 

As a result of the Emergency Declaration issued by the President on March 13, 2020, the IRS released Notice 2020-17 on March 18th giving income tax payment relief for individuals and businesses.
Notice 2020-17 provides that individuals and corporations can postpone the payment of income taxes owed on April 15th that fall below the thresholds of $1 million for individuals and $10 million for corporations until July 15, 2020. The postponement applies to both federal income taxes owed on April 15th as well as to any first quarter estimated income tax payments otherwise due on that date. Only amounts equal to or below the threshold amounts will be eligible for deferral on an interest-free, penalty-free basis. Interest, penalties, and additions to tax with respect to the postponed amounts will begin to accrue on July 16, 2020 if not paid by the July 15th postponement deadline.
Further, on March 20th, Treasury Secretary Mnuchin, at the urging of the President, announced that the April 15th income tax filing deadline would be extended until July 15, 2020.
Both of these developments will provide much needed relief for our clients as they deal with the continuingly unfolding and unfortunate events brought about by the global virus pandemic.
We will be awaiting further authoritative announcements as to how the tax payment and tax return filing postponements will apply to our clients. Additionally, we are closely monitoring what state payment and/or filing relief may also be forthcoming.
