ATA NAMES NEW PARTNER

ATA, a leading tax, accounting, and advisory firm, announces the addition of Beth Garner to its partner group. Garner brings with her an impressive track record of over 25 years in the accounting industry, with an emphasis on employee benefit plan audits.

Prior to joining ATA, Garner was the national practice leader for the employee benefit plan audit practice for BDO, a top-five accounting firm in the nation. Beth has significant experience auditing defined contribution, defined benefit, and health and welfare plans. Additionally, she has provided consulting on plan improvements, mergers and acquisitions, plan terminations, frozen plans and correction of compliance failures.

“ATA is glad to welcome Beth to our leadership. Beth’s experience in the specialized field of employee benefit plan audits, aligns perfectly with our commitment to expand our ERISA practice area,” said Chief Manager John Whybrew. “Her expertise and leadership in the field will be a valuable addition to ATA.”

As a Certified Public Accountant licensed in Georgia, Garner’s credentials are bolstered by her involvement with the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, where she previously served as a member of the AICPA Employee Benefit Plan Audit Quality Committee. She is also a member of the Georgia Society of CPAs. Garner has been a frequent speaker on various technical issues for the EBP industry and professional organizations.  She has also written numerous articles and been quoted in professional publications regarding the employee benefit plan industry.

ATA NAMES NEW PARTNER

MEMPHIS, TN. – ATA, a regional accounting firm, names Diane Sparks, CPA as the newest partner effective January 1, 2024. With more than 15 years of experience, Diane will help lead the assurance practice in the Memphis, TN office.

As a certified public accountant specializing in  attest work, Diane brings a wealth of expertise to her new leadership role. As a partner, Diane will have several important responsibilities such as client relationship management, guidance for client success, and mentoring others on the ATA team.

“Diane’s promotion to partner signifies her dedication, expertise, and commitment to ATA’s success,” said Managing Partner John Whybrew. “It’s a significant achievement in her career, and her contributions will further strengthen ATA’s position in the industry.”

Diane received her bachelor’s degree from the University of Memphis in 2005. She sat for the CPA exam and obtained her license in 2010. Apart from her professional life, Diane spends quality time with her husband and two children. Her interests are cake decorating and drawing, and she has a passion for traveling to the mountains. Additionally, Diane enjoys singing and actively participates in her church’s worship team.

ATA CPAs & Advisors Names New Partner

ATA CPAs & ADVISORS ANNOUNCES NEW PARTNER

Union City, Tenn. — ATA, a nationally recognized CPA and advisory firm, names Charles Peery as the newest partner. Peery helps lead the Union City, Tenn. office and has been with ATA for over seven years. Charles is a certified public accountant, specializing in tax and audit. In his new leadership role, Charles will be responsible for managing client relationships, helping guide those clients to future success, and also helping ATA team members further their professional careers. 

“Charles has shown great success in cultivating relationships with clients as well as being a rising community leader, said John Whybrew, Managing Partner of ATA. “I commend him on his growth and commitment to ATA.”

Peery received his undergraduate degree in business administration in accounting from the University of Tennessee at Martin in 2015. Peery has been married to his wife Kylie since 2013. Together, they have four children, Miloh, Madix, Carlisle, and Carisse, who keep them busy with church, school, sports, dance, singing, and pageants. 

Peery is the board chair and prior treasurer for United Way of Obion County, board member for the Obion County Chamber of Commerce, board of directors member for the Global Citizen Adventure Corps, and member as well as former board member of Kiwanis Club of Union City. Charles was recognized in the past as one of Obion County’s young professionals 31 under 31, he is a graduate of Obion County Leadership, and is a recent graduate of the WestStar Leadership Program.

ALEXANDER THOMPSON ARNOLD PLLC ANNOUNCES NEW PARTNER

Murray, Ky. — Alexander Thompson Arnold PLLC (ATA) is excited to announce Leah Bona, CPA has been admitted as the newest partner at ATA. Bona is being promoted to partner from her position as senior tax manager at the Murray, Ky. office. Bona joined ATA two and a half years ago after a stint in private accounting.

“Leah has proven her leadership skills in her role at the Murray office,” said John Whybrew, managing partner of ATA. “Her wealth of experience in the accounting industry makes her invaluable to our team. We are excited to see Leah’s career, as well as our firm, further develop through this promotion.”

Bona has over 15 years of experience in public accounting as well as over 10 years of experience in private accounting as a controller and CFO. Her responsibilities at ATA include tax and financial planning, preparation of corporate, business and individual tax returns, governmental and nonprofit auditing and an extensive range of accounting services.

“At ATA, we offer an excellent and diverse range of client services, and I believe there is an incredible future ahead for our firm,” said Bona. “I feel very fortunate to be honored with this exciting career advancement and am very thankful for the support and guidance I have received from the ATA partners and staff throughout my career.”

Bona graduated from Murray State University with a Bachelor of Science in Accounting. She received her Master of Business Administration with an accounting emphasis from Murray State University in 1996.

Bona serves her community on the finance committee at North Fork Baptist Church. She is a member of the Murray-Calloway County Chamber of Commerce and the Murray State Alumni Association. Bona is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) and the Kentucky Society of CPAs.

ALEXANDER THOMPSON ARNOLD NAMES NEW PARTNER

Alexander Thompson Arnold PLLC (ATA) is excited to name Elizabeth Russell Owen as the newest partner at ATA. Owen helps lead the Paris, Tenn. office and has been with ATA for six and a half years. She is a certified public accountant, specializing in tax services. In her new role as a partner, she will be responsible for the 1040 practice for the Paris location and client accounting services.

 

“Elizabeth is a team player, works hard and has demonstrated the ability to maintain exceptional relationships with clients,” said John Whybrew, Managing Partner of ATA. “This promotion was well-deserved. We are excited to see Elizabeth continue to contribute to our firm as we move forward.”

Owen is a member of the ATA tax committee, the employee engagement committee and helps develop internal training programs. She handles all of the Paris office’s tax correspondence and is redesigning the client accounting services practice.

 

“As I began my career at ATA, I recognized the opportunities offered for career growth,” said Owen. “It has been my goal to be admitted as a partner for several years. I hope to play a part in advancing the firm in the coming years as a partner.”

 

Owen received her undergraduate degree in accounting, international business and political science from the University of Tennessee at Knoxville in 2013. She received her Master of Accountancy from Belmont University in 2014.

 

Owen has been married to her husband Kody since 2016. They recently welcomed their son, Abbott Shaw, to their family.

 

Owen is a graduate of Leadership Carroll County, a program that builds community awareness and produces stronger leaders in the county each year. She is also a 2017 graduate of the WestStar Leadership Program; her class developed WestTeach, a program that allows teachers to stay in the classroom but also learn to be leaders in their communities. Owen also serves on the Board of Directors for the Paris Rotary Club.
